Bawtinheimer Family Sports Grant
The Bawtinheimer Family Sport Grant was established in 2015 by the Bawtinheimer family, three generations of Lindsay Thurber alumni who have participated in school sports, as well as individual and team sports outside of the school curriculum. They have succeeded as provincial, national, and international champions, and are strong advocates and supporters of Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School athletics. The grant will provide $500 to one Lindsay Thurber student. Deadline is May 16th to the Career Centre.
1. Awarded to a grade 10, 11, or 12 student who plans to further their athletic accomplishments to a higher level of competition through training, development camps, etc. A list of previous accomplishments and future goals must be included in this package.
2. The recipient must be at least a second generation graduate of Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School (having at least one parent who is a graduate of Thurber)
3. The recipient must be planning to pursue higher levels of competition in qualifying sports and will use the grant funds for personal development.
4. Preference is given to a student pursuing an individual or team sport that is part of the school curriculum, and those involved in individual sports in the community which are not a part of the school curriculum.
Each year, we publish a school-based scholarship package which contains 27 scholarships ranging in monetary value from between $100 and $2000. Many of these awards have been in existence for more than 25 years and were set up in order to honour the memory of former students and teachers, as well as to encourage graduating grade 12 students to pursue post-secondary studies. Several of these scholarships are also sponsored by local businesses and members of the community. Regardless of what you are pursuing in post-secondary studies, whether it is a degree, diploma, certificate, trade, or other form of training, there is something for which you will fit the criteria! They are not based on academics!
In order to be considered for one of these awards, grade 12 students must pick up and complete an application package, which is available in the Career Centre. The deadline for applications to be submitted back to the Career Centre is Friday, June 7th. Please note * you will be required to have 2 letters of reference to accompany your submission.
