World of Choices Career Workshop Field Trip
Students in grades 10 - 12 who are interested in participating in the Career Centre's field trip to the World of Choices are invited to pick up a field trip form to be signed and returned by Wednesday, February 27th. The field trip takes place on Wednesday, March 6th from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Holiday Inn, Gasoline Alley. The event is free of charge for students, as local businesses and individuals sponsor participants to take part in this amazing event. Students will meet with career mentors and learn about careers that interest them while exploring the variety of career possibilities and finding out what it takes to fulfill their chosen career path. There are only 20 spots available for this amazing opportunity so sign up early! Get set for an exciting, fast-paced morning where you get the chance to talk with some amazing men/women representing a vast array of career areas. You will meet and interact with people from varied career backgrounds. Lunch will be served and door prizes offered. Registration and field trip forms can be picked up in the Career Centre and must be returned by Friday, February 8th.
Alberta Innovates Heritage Youth Researcher Summer Program
Each year, the University of Calgary hosts the Alberta Innovates Heritage Youth Summer Researcher Program. The program is designed for motivated Grade 11 students in Alberta high schools who have a clear interest in pursuing health related careers, to gain first-hand experience with biomedical and health research, and to introduce them to career opportrunities in research. Students will work in a University lab doing cutting-edge research, meeting together weekly for a variety of activities to broaden and enhance their research experience. Activities include safety and introductory training sessions, tours of campus and other research facilities, lectures on health research, and discussions with guest speakers about their careers. Students will receive a stipend of $3000 for 6 weeks of work. An 85% average in each of Math 20-1 or 20-2, Biology 20, and one other grade 11 subject is required. MyPass Account Setup
myPass is an Alberta Education self-service website for High School Students. This site is where students can print off their diploma exam results and order transcripts. Visit the Career Centre to give them your Name, Personal Email Address, and Alberta Student Number (this is on your Student ID Card - ASN). You will also need this # when you activate your account. You can also submit this information by clicking on this link https://goo.gl/forms/c30evkecd73JYQDB3 After you have entered your email info on the google doc use the instruction sheet to access MyPass. Account activation instructions. Give the Career Centre a few hours to get your email entered before you try accessing MyPass.
