Grade 10 - Complementary Courses
Cosmetology 10-4 (5 credits)
This is the introductory course into general hair care and grooming. Students will learn shampooing, hairstyling, makeup, dressing, skin care and nails. Students will also learn about personality development and communication.
Workplace Readiness 10-4 (5 credits)
This course is an introduction to the world of work,
resumé writing, job skills, how to get and keep a job, and career planning. This is the Grade 10 K & E. course which leads to the Grade 11 and Grade 12 work experience courses.
Fabrication 10-4 (5 credits)
This is an introductory course in welding where students will learn basic shop safety and have the opportunity to learn oxyacetylene, arc and possibly MIG welding.
PE 10/C.A.L.M. 20 K & E (6 credits)
This is the Career and Life Management and Physical Edu-cation course for the K & E student. This course will help to prepare the students for full time employment, living and working on their own, as well as giving them a healthy physical education experience. Students take this course in their Grade 11 year.
Human Care 10-4 (5 credits)
Students will complete a variety of projects and activities in the areas of career exploration, workplace safety, first aid and personal safety, childcare andhomecare.
Auto Mechanics 10-4 (5 credits)
In Auto Mechanics 10-4, students will complete a variety of projects and activities in the areas of career awareness, vehicle value and appraisal (optional) and vehicle operation.
Building 10-4 (5 credits)
Building 10-4 provides an introduction to the tools, equipment and materials needed to assemble and finish a variety of wood working projects.
Foods 10-4 (5 credits)
This course will be an introduction to the world of professional cooking. Students will work in our cafeteria kitchen in the preparation of large volumes of food for service to the students and staff of the school , as well as outside catering. Students will learn to prepare a wide selection of foods, both for commercial operations and for their homes.
