Bronze Medal at Cross Country Running Provincials

The Lindsay Thurber Raiders Cross Country High School Running Team loaded up 19 of the 22 Zone Qualifiers to take on the challenge of the 2018 ASAA Provincial Championships in Vermillion on Saturday, October 20. Top-10 finishes are rare in this elite field of runners, but our school had four Top-10 finishers: Josh Campbell (4) in senior boys, Owen Pimm (7) in intermediate boys, Jamie Lalor (9) in senior girls, and Hannah Wirtanen (9) in intermediate girls.

Every Raider gave their very best and finished very well as individual runners in this elite field:

Junior Girls: Kirsten Read (73/128), Emma Willms (91/128)

Junior Boys: Komelle Abdel Salam (50/129), Jory Lodewyk (63/129), Blake Kenworthy (80/129)

Intermediate Girls: Hannah Wirtanen (9/123), Rebecca Kenworthy (33/123)

Intermediate Boys: Owen Pimm (7/123), Wyatt Grainger (40/123), Connor McCrea (70/123), Selemani Nshimiyimana (102/123)

Senior Girls: Jamie Lalor (9/110), Avery Grainger (28/110), Kalee Lodewyk (61/110), Dawsin McDonald (67/110)

Senior Boys: Josh Campbell (4/110), Tyler Herzberg (35/110), Keegan Thompson (41/110), Nico Contreras (84/110)

The icing on the cake was our team’s bronze medal performance in the overall category of 4A schools. This marks the fourth year in a row that our Raiders Cross Country Running Team has secured a medal position at Provincials. Only one other school has been able to claim that type of success over the past four years in the 4A category. Congratulations to the runners and the coaches of the Raiders’ XC Running Team.

Finally, a special thanks to the five dedicated coaches of the LTCHS Raiders Cross-Country Running Team: Mr. Brian Madill, Mr. Peter Haynes, Mrs. Gail Johnston, Mr. Jordan Smith, Mrs. Kathy Lalor and Mr. Carl Light. Creating the right blend of hard work, challenging and interesting training workouts, careful guidance, and spirited team atmosphere is a difficult thing to do… This group of coaches, along with the wonderful student-athletes that came out every day, in every kind of weather, seemed to get it right! Congrats to all. It was another great season of running at LTCHS.
