High School Cross Country Running Team finishes 3rd in the Province

LTCHS Cross-Country Runners Have a Banner Season!

The Cross-Country Running team at LTCHS put a cap on their running season by claiming the 4A bronze medal spot at the Alberta Schools Athletic Association’s 2016 Provincial Cross-Country Running Championships in Cochrane on Saturday. Only William Aberhart High School, of Calgary, and Strathcona High School, of Edmonton, finished better than the Lindsay Thurber Raiders.

Journey Flewell and Emma Holmes were the Raiders’ top runners at the meet, finishing the 4 km Intermediate Girls race in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Journey covered the distance in a time of 16:58, while Emma ran the 4 km in 17:01. Hayley Lalor (24th;19:08) and Tessa Strom (75th; 22:04) also ran well for Thurber in the Intermediate Girls division. Other runners who completed the 4 km distance were Junior Boys, Josh Campbell (15th; 16:06) and Logan Lopaschuk (64th; 17:37); and Senior Girls, Kalena Soehn (62nd; 21:12) and Jade Weber (77th; 22:08). The Intermediate Boys ran 5 km and were lead by Reid Petrosenko (31st; 18:51), and followed by Izaak Vriend (68th; 20:25) and Isaiah Paterson (20:26). The Senior Boys, Kurtis Willoughby (57th; 21:57) and Tseguye Adair (81st; 23:11) ran a longer 6 km race. The Junior Girls started the day by running 3 km and had finishes by Jamie Lalor (38th; 11:51) and Dawsin McDonald (77th; 12:55).

Earlier, last week, the Raiders Runners shared the Central Alberta Schools Athletic Association’s 2016 Zone Cross-Country Championship with their friendly rivals at Notre Dame High School. Notre Dame went on to finish eighth in the Provincial Championships on Saturday, while Hunting Hills finished ninth. Overall, the Red Deer high schools represented the region very well, while competing against 50 other high schools in the 4A competition.
